Hope that your week has been going well so far! We’ve passed the mid-week mark so press on and we will be stepping into the weekends real soon. 🌟
This Thursday is going to be an exciting one as we managed to have a little interview session with the talented @pearlynkmin!
For those of you who do not know yet, she is the lady behind some of the romantic prints that you have been seeing under our #TCLCNY2018 collections. 🌸
Every print under this collaboration was curated by her, with The Closet Lover in mind.
This probably explains why the prints are extremely well received by you ladies. 😘
Psst, featured Yarra Abstract Shift Dress above is up on backorder. If you missed out on this number previously, here is a second chance for you to get it! 🙆🏻♀️
The second print (which will be launching later tonight at 8.30!) is something softer, sweeter and speaks to every lady’s inner sweetheart.
In shades of pink and pastel hues, these watercolour florals are perfect for the upcoming Chinese New Year, Valentine’s Day and even on regular days where you want to go for a more whimsical look. 💓
If you wish to find out a little more about Pearlyn and her thought processes leading up to our prints, camp for our post! 😉
Hi Pearlyn! A short introduction about yourself, please! ☺️
Pearlyn: Hello! I’m Pearlyn and I run a tiny business, Pearlyn and Paper that designs wedding stationery using mainly watercolour! But these days I catch myself running after a 18 month toddler. 😅
Another thing people find it rather interesting and surprising is that I actually reside in sunny Barcelona, Spain and one of the ways I keep connected to Singapore is through this platform, Dayre! ✨
Pearlyn is one amazing woman as she juggles with her family, a kid (and one more on the way) along with her business! As the nature of her job calls for creativity and time, we can’t help but wonder how she manages her time so well. 😇
She is also one radiant mummy despite having so much to manage on her plate. 🌟
What sparked off your interest in calligraphy art and watercolour works?
Pearlyn: As far as I could remember, Fine arts and crafts has always been part of my life.
Watching my dad paint and fix his miniature warships and fighter planes as a hobby and my mum making her porcelain dolls, I think that made me grow up loving all things art.
I decided to pursue arts as my studies and as a career when I realised that painting was not only something I enjoyed but something I excelled in.
What’s the most satisfying aspect of your job?
Pearlyn: This one is easy! When clients tell me how much they love the work and how much they’ve enjoyed working with me always puts a smile on my face! 😄
It must be really tough juggling your job along aside having a kid. (Rey is so adorable!) Any tips that you have to share how you manage your time?
Pearlyn: Hehe thank you! She’s got too much personality in that tiny body of hers! 🙈
Thankfully I do have a little “me” time in the day because I put here in daycare and she loves it in school. I take opportunity to finish some work during the mornings.
Check out this adorable picture of little Rey with our co-founders, @briannawonggg & @bertillawong just last year! 😍
She captured Bree and Bert’s hearts almost instantly with her lively personality and cute acts.
Fast forward a year and she is a little toddler whose charms grew as time passed! ❤️
Look at her being all game for the camera with her dose of cuteness! 😍😗
This is the second year that TCL is collaborating with you. Share with us a little more about the inspirations behind the prints that you came up for us.
Pearlyn: I think when the TCL girls approached me and shared with me some of the ideas they had, I was absolutely stoked, I mean to have your prints on clothes is like any girls’ dream come true.
This was truly a collaboration between TCL as they shared their ideas and colours that they thought was suitable for their clientele - sweet and girly with pastel hues.
We also wanted to create something which was slightly different last year - something more modern and abstract, viable for this year and I think the watercolour splashes and did just that. (:
It has been amazing working with Pearlyn for the second year straight and we are glad that she is able to incorporate the essence of TCL in her prints.
Something girly but yet modern and wearable - that’s what we aimed for and we are glad to say that we have achieved it judging from the responses that we have received, that were more than encouraging. ❣️
Tell us which is your personal favourite from this collaboration series! We are sure our readers would love to know~
Hands down the pinafore dress in that pink print, I told Bert to keep that for me instantly! I love long dresses but I’m what you would call girly and sweet. 😅🙈🙊 This structured dress really caught my eye.
Here is the said piece that topped the list for Pearlyn!
It is no wonder why Pearlyn likes this piece. With its midi length coupled with a sweet watercolour prints, it is a sophisticated number that will stay in your wardrobe for a long time to come. ✨
We also love that with the highlight placed entirely on the prints, you do not need to fuss too much over the styling. In fact, donning this along with a pair of heels will do the job!
This will be launching online tonight at 8.30 so if you wish to get a piece of this, remember to set your alarms. ⏰
This print will be made available in a variety of styles (top, qipao, midi, skater dress) so regardless of your style, there will definitely be something for you at tonight’s launch!
Hop on the bandwagon with us with our Darlenna Printed Top. This will be your best bet if you are loving the print that Pearlyn has come up with but you are not into dresses!
We highly recommend that you let these prints remain the highlight of your outfit. Go for a simple basic bottom (think black/ white bottoms or even denim jeans!) and that will be instant chicness right there. ✌🏻
Psst: you can also choose to go girly with this number with a pair of pearl drop earrings just like how we did it right here. ;)
Remember, accessories can amp up your look and take it to a new level.
One of the highlights we have under our #TCLCNY2018 collections.
How could we resist having a traditional qipao in this gorgeous print? Darlenna Printed Qipao features Pearlyn’s prints with mandarin collars and buttons.
Not only that, we incorporated strategically placed trimmings in a complementing pink hue at the chest area.
Far more than just being a design element, these trimmings help to draw attention to the intricate details at the collars. It also plays a part in creating an illusion of a slimmer silhouette.
As for the fit, we are proud to say that it hugs all the right curves! If you are still in doubt, head over to our retail stores and give this dress a try for yourself! ☺️
What are you planning to wear for CNY this year? 🍊
Pearlyn: I’m in a dilemma because one, it has to fit my bump and two, it’s winter! ❄️
Hahaha so unfortunately I don’t have much options. I’m quite a practical person when it comes to winter, keeping myself warm is priority 😄 Thus, I’m currently in search for a long knit dress to keep me warm!
Any all-time personal favourite works of yours?
Pearlyn: I have actually a handful of them! But one of the top three on my list has to be this dark and gold botanical floral invitation for Darren & Jenny!
Pearlyn: Such dark colours are usually a taboo to be used at Chinese weddings.
We always marvel at Pearlyn’s work as we check out her social media posts (@pearlynkmin)!
The prints she curate are infused with a touch of modernity and class that is uniquely hers!
For all the #dayrebrides out there, if you are still looking for someone to do up your wedding invite, you know who to look for! 🎎
Anything in particular that you’re looking forward to this CNY? :)
As always I look forward to the food and our gathering with the Singapore community we call family here. Being away from Singapore, nothing beats having family to celebrate with laughter and food this season.
Anything else you would like to say to our readers? 🙂
I really hope you love the prints as much as I do! And please do say hi if you ever drop by Barcelona! Always love meeting fellow SEAsians and sharing stories from around the world! 👋🏼
We hope you enjoy this short but sweet interview with Pearlyn and hopefully, it provided a little more insight to our thought processes that led up to the launches of these exclusive TCL X Pearlyn & Paper numbers.
Huge thanks to Pearlyn for taking time off to share her thoughts with us as well! 😘
