Been busy with the last few days of the BKK trip and so tired since baby, no, TODDLER still gets up at regular intervals. So in a way, I “owe” four days of thanksgiving in my #thankfulchallenge so I shall talk about L.O.V.E.
1) L:IVING WORD
LIVING Word. One of those days in BKK, I was eavesdropping on conversations my SiL was having with her daughter and listening to some parenting take place. I have struggles of my own but I am very thankful that there are guides in the Word of God for not just parenting but any situation in life.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 NKJV
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
Moreover, the Word of God is living. I don’t quite like re-reading books but re-reading God’s Word is refreshing because the Holy Spirit brings fresh insight and can be applied to different seasons in life.
I need to treasure this Word a little more and hide (i.e. memorise) more of God’s Word in my heart so I can declare those truths in my life.
Opportunities for what? To serve God, to take part in His Kingdom’s call. We are not worthy, we have our weaknesses, yet...
1 Corinthians 1:27 NKJV
But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty...
God can do it all on His own. He doesn’t really need us but chooses to work with us because we have a relationship with Him. We are not just mere earthlings used as pawn pieces in a chess game.
And, even when we fail, He gives us those precious opportunities to try and try again, as long as we turn to Him.
Because Jesus died on the cross - Jesus, the Son of God, the God Man, as one of my church sermons preached - we have victory. Victory over death. Some people think death is no big deal and brush away heaven as some place full of boring good people. Death is about eternal separation from the One who LOVES us the most. Heaven is about being able to commune with Him physically and find eternal rest after often an arduous find on earth.
Jesus’s victory over death also means victory over the enemy. The enemy that seeks to steal, kill and destroy - steal our joy, kill our hope and destroy our destiny - he has been defeated for good. Thus, we can hang on to the joy, hope and destiny that God has promised us. Whatever defeat we feel is only momentary. Jesus has the last laugh.
Acts 2:42-45 NKJV
And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. Then fear came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles. Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common, and sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need.
Ecclesia refers to the body of believers and indeed I am thankful to have that body of believers to love and serve Christ together. Not just those that I am close to or in my cell group, but to have a like-minded group of people loving God together is always very heartening.
I remember before National Day, attending church wide prayer meeting - maybe with a few hundred people. The passion that we prayed with for our nation overwhelmed me. Such unity.
Be it someone from the same church or not, it’s always nice to know a fellow believer and we can always spur each other on toward love and good deeds. Just like how you’ve spurred me on @janjazz !!
Hebrews 10:24-25 NKJV
And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.
