Happy 2019 y’all! 🥳
Hope it’s going good for y’all so far hahaha nothing exciting has happened yet which I don’t think is a bad thing cause I have loads on my mind now so don’t need anything to distract me further. It’s been slightly difficult to get back to working mode but so far okay!
First review of the year is the Neogen Vita Duo Cream: Joan Day & Joan Night Cream
I first shared this briefly on @hoppypoppyz:291118 to give a first impression based on the texture of the products on the back of my hand. Afterwards I’ve used it exclusively for both day and night, for about 3-4 weeks. You guys know I go back to my Pasir Ris place once a week and I even brought the tub along with me so I can really consistently used it hahaha #dedication
This is a tub of cream that has been spilt into 2, with both day and night creams in one tub. It’s a collaboration between Neogen and Joan Kim.
I wasn’t used to just using one tub of cream for both day and night, have to keep reminding myself to not reach out for other products like I usually do hahaha
Here’s how much I’ve used around the 3 weeks mark, can you tell which one I used more 🙈 and there’s also a reason why I used it more, you’ll see why below.
More official info on the 2 creams:
Joan Day Cream is formulated with Green tea and Vitamin C, two active ingredients that will revitalize skin for all-day moisture and brighten skin complexion.
Joan Night Cream is formulated with Lavender and Vitamin E to help protect and improve the skin’s strength. The relaxing scent and cooling texture delivers hydration all night long.
Not gonna lie, I was slightly thrown off by the consistency of both creams as the day cream is thicker and more like a regular cream formula, while the night cream is more of a gel which I usually will associate it being for day time use especially for someone like me with combo skin.
How it feels/looks on my skin
I first used the night cream and normally I do not like lavender scent, but this one was pleasant and not too soap-like. It being in a gel consistency meant that it sank into the skin very quickly, but because I gave drier areas on the face like my cheeks and forehead, I had to layer a couple of layers of it especially on those areas to feel like there’s a light film on the skin. It could be because I sleep in AC room as well, so my skin may dry out more quickly at night.
I do use sheet masks and serums as per normal, changing it up from night to night, only thing kept consistent was the cream. Yet somehow I still feel the need to layer at least 2-3 layers of it which isn’t the most convenient. It does feel like it’ll suit oily skin more, given how lightweight and fast-absorbing the night cream is. If you have combination or dry skin, it won’t be enough for you.
For the day cream, it looks like it’s on the heavier side but it does spread out easily without leaving any cast or streaks. I tried it out by using it underneath just sunsceeen alone for my no-makeup days and also underneath makeup (after sunscreen of course) to see if it’ll really kind of act as a primer. For no-makeup days, it’s slightly too oily for my combination skin and I made sure to use my trusty Make P:rem sunscreen which I know doesn’t make my skin shiny, so it’s really the cream.
This could be due to how the second ingredient, after water, is olive oil and that is a good ingredient for dry climates like Korea for example but will be abit much for Singapore’s humid weather if you use it alone. I find myself really just only taking a small dollop of it if I’m using it on a no-makeup day. As for days I wear makeup, it didn’t make my skin produce more oil than usual.
In fact I think it worked better for me when I have makeup on as I tend to use loads of setting powder or powder foundation so my base is more on the matte side. It certainly didn’t extend the longevity of my makeup but it did make my cheeks and forehead look & feel less dry which is good. The day cream will definitely suit dry skin more, or those who stay in countries with dry climate. I can see how this will be a great winter time cream my combo skin type too!
The product is called vita duo so supposedly the vitamin C and vitamin E content in the day and night creams respectively should be decent right? So I googled and read some reviews, found out that wasn’t the case.
Ingredients - Day Cream
The vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid in ingredients list below) content in the day cream is only 0.1ppm, which equates to 0.00001%. Joan mentioned that using the cream helped to fade her acne scars, but with such a low % of vit C in the cream, I highly doubt it’ll really do that. Also, with it being in a jar, the constant exposure to air and light when you open it will also make whatever vit C content degraded already 😅
Joan Day Vita Cream: Water, Hydrogenated Olive Oil Lauryl Esters, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, 1,2-Hexanediol, Glycerin, Neopentyl Glycol Diheptanoate, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Ascorbic Acid (0.1ppm), Cyclopentasiloxane, Cetyl Alcohol, Stearyl Alcohol, Cetearyl Glucoside, Coptis Japonica Extract, Trehalose, Butylene Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Gardenia Florida Fruit Extract, Allantoin, Glucose, Maltodextrin, Sodium Hyaluronate, Panthenol, Disodium EDTA
Ingredients - Night Cream
The vit E (Tocopheryl Acetate in ingredients list below) content in the night cream is also only at 0.001% so I doubt it'll have much effect either. Also, the lavender oil that’s added is a huge irritant for many people with sensitive skin, I didn’t know until I did some research and thank goodness my skin didn’t react negatively like some did! I read some scary reviews where one use lead to whole face of tiny bumps 😵
Joan kept talking about how the night cream will help one to sleep better, without actually going into details about how it’ll help improve one’s skin. Also, she says she has dry skin so she will layer both the day and night creams for nighttime which I find kinda troublesome and it means the night cream is not effective to use alone. I’m not surprised because if my combo skin needs at least a couple layers, dry skin definitely needs way more. I don’t like to layer creams so this is a no for me.
Joan Night Vita Cream: Water, Dipropylene Glycol, Cyclopentasiloxane, Glycerin, Cyclohexasiloxane, 1,2 Hexanediol, Dimethicone, Polyglyceryl-3 Methylglucose Distearate, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavander) Oil, Tocopheryl Acetate (10ppm), Cyanocobalamin, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP Copolymer, Glyceryl Stearate SE, Methyl Glucose Sesquistearate, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimthyl Taurate Copolymer, Polyacrylate-13, Polyisobutene, Ethylhexylglycerin
Disodium EDTA, Polysorbate 20, Sorbitan Isostearate, Gardenia Florida Fruit Extract, Maltodextrin
I think it’s just an ~okay~ product and it’s not as good as most of the reviews have mentioned, I’ve definitely used better creams. I agree that the packaging is nice and thought has gone into it, but pretty packaging can’t make my skin better right 😂 after my 3-4 weeks of constant use purely for review purpose and of course high hopes that this is the next best thing, I’ve since stop using it and don’t even feel the want to use it lol
That’s saying a lot because if something is good, you’ll feel the need to use it. I really don’t find myself reaching out for it to use either of the day or night creams. Honestly I’m quite disappointed as it’s so hyped up and after doing my research online, I’m certainly not the only one who feel this way and I’m glad cause I thought I’m one of the odd one out who doesn’t like it. I know many of you have asked me on my thoughts on whether this is worth buying, I would say nah~
That being said, I know everyone’s skin is different so if you still wanna try it and know that your skin is not sensitive to any products, please do! What doesn’t work well for me may work for so many others hahaha plus it’s not like this product wrecked my skin so it’s a “still okay to use” in my books. I’ll be super happy if it works for you!!!
Also, I found so many people criticizing her as a YouTuber based on her character and content which kinda shocked me as I do enjoy watching her vids from time to time. But after reading what others have broken down, I do feel abit cheated by her. I started watching her vids since she just started and do see some pretty drastic changes, but to have others like pinpoint and break it down all the negative points about her and her content, was quite shocking.
Hahaha hope y’all enjoyed the more detailed review on the product!!! It’s more informative than my usual reviews as the information I found online really intrigued me and made loads of sense. I’m still more go by the ~feels~ when it comes to reviewing cause it’s more personal that way hahaha but it’s nice to include ingredients list and possible issues from there.
This was from one of the last days of 2018
I think rosy eye looks are my faves! Even more than browns or oranges. I feel more girly than ever hahaha
Also, I used the Fenty Flyliner and it’s good! Very easy to draw wing liner and I suck at drawing eyeliner which why I usually only have mascara on, plus that day I tested like mad cause of some reason and was dabbing my eyes with tissue to dry them - No smudging and eyeliner looked very intact! Was impressed for sure
Took out my hair bun to get vaguely wavy hair, still contemplating on whether to get a hair perm 🤨 my usual hairstylist has advices me against it for years as it’ll be a waste of money due to how my hair to naturally very straight and too fine to hold the curls. Oh wells, I need a haircut first so I’ll hold that thought for now.
Got a cute pair of leopard print earrings from Debbie of finearray and I love them! Yes, I’m still in my polyclay earrings phase hahaha had to keep holding back cause I clearly only have one pair of ears ah???
Can’t wait to wear these out tomorrow! They are a more tamed and toned down version of leopard prints which will suit everyone. I’m not ready to look like an overstuffed leopard so I’ll start small 😂
Rainy days seem so far awayyyyy, give me my wet cold days back! I’m perspiring like mad everyday now
My natural makeup day! Base, blush, highlight, lip balm - Done 👌🏻 only day I slapped on some makeup to work and as you can see, my lashes are back to normal liao hahaha just nice I went to get lash lift done today woohoo
This is called pajamas chic 😂 love wearing comfy clothes to work hahahaha
Went to see our new office space, it’s really coming today! Only managed to snap a photo of our HR corner and all of us are excited to move in our own space finally. 2 more weeks!!!!
Went to Crabtree & Evelyn at Suntec to hopefully grab something that Nigel likes but they already closed down as there’s no stock to replenish the store with. Well at least I found out they are not totally gone even though they have announced bankruptcy! They will be moving online so we still can hopefully get our faves and there’s even gonna be new products towards the 2nd half of the year
Can’t rmb why I snapped a photo of me buying bread for us, maybe cause it felt like a very wifey thing to do amongst another things and I really got reminded of how I love being Nigel’s family 😊 more than just a girlfriend
