I had planned to update about my #Bangkok trip on-the-go, but our 5 days there were so packed I couldn't find time to pen down my thoughts.
When I'm not feeling lazy, I do like to keep a short record of my adventures because it's always nice to look back on and recollect memories.
Always the reason why I pick window seats. ☁️☁ Watching clouds float by from the plane window always makes me feel minute and just a tiny part of this world we live in.
As I was telling Jean, I felt the need for a holiday right after our holiday because trips are beginning to mean less of an "adventure" and more like a time for "rest and retreat", which is why I keep choosing the same holiday destinations like Korea and Japan. The familiarity and comfort is what keeps pulling me back to them.
First meal in Bangkok was at Sushi Oo (Mercury Ville, Chit Lom station) near our serviced apartment. Salmon aburi sushi is so much love! 😍 The last time I was in Bangkok last December, OSOS loved this so much we ate here twice in a span of 3 days.
Next up was shopping at Union Mall, which had a pretty nice collection of clothes at a slightly higher price. I liked how the stalls were organized (meaning when you shop in a group you're less likely to get lost and can find each other easily). Wasn't in the mood for shopping though, because our flight that morning was at 7.40am which meant little sleep and a grumpy me.
The top floor at Union Mall has a great collection of phone covers, not those bling-bling and cheap-looking types you would find at Platinum Mall or the night markets. They have many Disney and Sanrio rip-offs but are of super good quality. Found this Little Twin Stars one that I fell in love with and managed to haggle with the shop owner from 12 to 10 bucks. 😇
Went to Talad Rod Fai at night and ordered two bowls of seafood tomyum noodles to fill our hungry tummies! Highly recommend this to all spicy food lovers! The broth OMG 😱 Creamy, spicy, savory, simply amazing. There were huge chunks of fish, mini crabs, mussels, and the best squid I've ever had (the texture was soooo good). The medium bowl also has a small lobster in it. Prawns weren't the most fresh, but hey for 350 baht (14 dollars) nobody is complaining.
You can also find all kinds of street food at Rod Fai. There are two main areas for food, and the tomyum noodles can be found in the inner market area (near the vintage cars).
Say hi to diabetes in a bowl. 😂 The candied strawberries were too sour for my liking, and according to Vic and Jean who bought this, there are layers of condensed milk and strawberry syrup within the ice. It was quite a nice surprise to find crispy bread crumbs in it, which makes it quite unlike the local ice kachang.
It was so crazy hot we all wanted to strip down to our underwear that night. 😓
Encountered a tiny hiccup on our way back to the hotel but glad everyone is safe and sound!
Day 2's agenda: Shopping at #Chatuchak !
Fresh-faced and ready to roll!
First stop at Chatuchak - everyone's favourite coconut ice cream! So creamy and good! The authentic stall is the one at Kamphaeng Phet MRT station entrance (next to the milk tea stall). Tried a bowl from another stall and it really did not live up to this.
Here's the pork chop bun stall at Area 22 Soi 4. Similar to kongba pau but the meat is marinated with honey which makes it so much more sweet and juicy.
Introducing my selfie partner YY 👯
As per my first trip to BKK 1.5 years ago, I loved the shops at Chatuchak most! Major wallet damage done on that day lol.
Got myself a new customized hot pink passport cover to conquer the world with for only 200 baht (8 dollars). Love the quality of it yay!
We were really exhausted by the time we finished (a quarter) of Chatuchak. Oh, when will I ever conquer you?
Made our way to Sukhumvit 38 for dinner and had the famous mango sticky rice that OSOS didn't manage to get the last time round because it wasn't mango season.
Thai food ranks high on my favourite cuisines. And Thai iced milk tea has got to be one of the yummiest drinks ever?!
Definitely visiting Nakhon or Sukhothai (behind Bedok Mall and good alternative to Nakhon without the queue) soon for my Thai food fix. Hehe.
Updates on Day 3 and 4 another time! 😘
