Let’s welcome #NetccentricxNDP2016! πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡¬πŸŽ‰

Hello Churpers! The weekends are here once again, YAY for Friday πŸ˜„

So we got up early on Wednesday morning and felt that the sky was looking pretty dull. Did you guys notice it too?

We found out later that there was a partial solar eclipse…a rare sight for us! 😱

If you missed it, there’ll be another occurrence on 26 Dec 2019 hehe so mark your calendar! πŸ˜›

Thanks Xinlin @stopthepretence’s sister for this shot!

Well, we weren’t exactly up early on Wednesday to catch the eclipse but instead for….

the first National Day Parade (NDP) media event of 2016 with @brenwho @stopthepretence & @kellylatimer! πŸŽ‰

Yup that’s right, Netccentric will be partnering with NDP once again this year and through these media events, we’ll be receiving first dibs on how Singapore will be celebrating her birthday come 9 August 2016! πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡¬

After all the SG50 hype, we’re excited to share with you on this year’s theme, concept, and logo.

One of the major differences for 2016’s celebration would be the…venue! For the first time in 10 years and since the official opening of Singapore Sports Hub in 2014, the parade will finally be held at the National Stadium. Whoop Whoop!

Let’s have a #throwback to past NDP celebration venues!

🌿 PADANG 🌿

Our first National Day was held at the Padang!

Being one of the main venues for the celebrations, it has been planned that the parade would be held here every 5 years. The Padang is also where Singapore declared its independence! #ndpfunfact

The #SG50 parade was one of the biggest celebrations in Singapore that took place mainly at the Padang too.

as well as Team Netccentric got to be part of the party!

We also took a moment to remember our founding father, Mr Lee Kuan Yew 😌

πŸŽ– NATIONAL STADIUM πŸŽ–

In order to accommodate more people participating in NDP, they moved the celebration to the National Stadium in 1976.

Offering about 60,000 seats, more Singaporeans could join in and cheer for Singapore on her special day! πŸŽ‰

🌊 MARINA BAY FLOATING PLATFORM 🌊

The world’s largest floating stage, Marina Bay Floating Platform can hold up to 30,000 people!

It was built to be a temporary venue for the National Day celebrations whilst awaiting the completion of the Sports Hub. The floating platform has since held 8 NDPs! #ndpfunfact

Alright enough of throwbacks, let’s get on with #NDP2016!

Theme: Building our Singapore of Tomorrow

This year’s theme is a call to action for Singaporeans to build our future together.
Now that we’re done celebrating #SG50, we’re onto the next chapter of building Singapore’s future together!

What’s the Concept behind NDP 2016?

Leveraging on technologies, NDP 2016 will present a different and refreshed NDP experience while retaining traditional favourites such as the RSAF state flag flypast and salute to the nation performed by five F-16D fighter aircraft. Who doesn’t love a fancy air show! πŸ›©

Not only that, this year’s parade also encourages collective ownership, active participation and promotes inclusiveness in the NDP celebrations among Singaporeans.

How will they achieve that?

By opening up a second preview for more Singaporeans to watch the parade live. Yay! 😁

The public can provide suggestions via the official website and NDPeeps social media page. Want to have more items in the funpack? No problem, just comment away!

2016’s logo ❀️

What do you think about this year’s NDP logo?

A competition was held and Chelsea Lim, a student pursuing a Diploma in Visual Communications and Media Design at Singapore Polytechnic, clinched the honour! Her design won both the judges and Singaporeans’ hearts!

Guess how long she took to create the logo?

10 days! 😱

She got some reference from past NDP logos like these...

One of the judges, Dennis, shared with us on how they picked the winner:

βœ”οΈ The logo resonated well with the people
βœ”οΈ It was a refreshing geometric design that came from the heart (literally haha)
βœ”οΈ and it represented the diversity of Singapore – 4 various shades of red πŸ”΄

It’s such a joy to see the committee engaging the public as they were able to vote for their favourite logo, so even the younger generations could be part of the celebration πŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌ

We know, we know it’s still pretty early in the year to think about National Day but we hope you’re at least a teeny bit excited for #NDP2016! Stay tuned to our space as well as @nuffnangsg for more updates!

Have a great weekend ahead y’all! πŸ™ŒπŸΌπŸ––πŸ»
