Day 3: Day trip to Gapyeong
Kickstarted our day with the complimentary Americano from our hotel! When in Korea, drink like the Koreans 😂 Ain’t a fan of black coffee, but when black coffee is the only option, it ain’t that bad afterall ☕️
We started our day really early because we had to head out of the city area for our day trip! Thanks to the #navermap, we managed to get to Gapyeong pretty easily! It was supposedly 1-2hrs journey from Myeongdong, but we somehow reached in an hour?
#dayretravels #dayretravel #seoul
This was supposedly our journey:
Hotel > Euljiro Stn Line 2 > Wangsimni Stn Line 1 > Walk to Gyeogui-Jungang Line > Cheongnyangni Stn > ITX Cheongnyangni Stn Board > Gapyeong Station
But it was shortened since Wangsimini Stn is linked to Cheongnyangni ITX. That being said, it’s different ticketing for the 2 trains! You’ll have to purchase tickets for ITX which we didn’t know, haha.
Gotten the tix from this ahjjussi who was checking for tix. He even gave us a discount for our train tix!
Woots, reached Gapyeong earlier than expected! Being the kiasu Singaporean, we decided to buy tix back home first, which was a wrong decision 😅 I’ll share more later! Haha.
Moral of the story: Kiasu is not always good 🤣
Oh yes, we bought the Gapyeong Bus Pass (6,000W) from the bus captain when we were on the way to our 1st stop for the day (Gapyeong Rail Park). This pass allow one to take unlimited bus rides within a day!
Since we were pretty early, we reached at 10plus when our Rail Park activity was scheduled for 12noon, we decided to explore Gapyeong for a bit!
It was a pretty small town with mostly small local shops, with just few more known shops (cosmetic brand etc) around! And it was a Monday morning, there were barely anyone on the streets 😂
Paparazzi shot by Ian 📷
Oh and we chanced upon a Daiso! Imagine our joy when we saw this familiar shop in sight 🤗
We explored further and chanced upon their local “wet market”! It was really quite a sight, feels somewhat like the market I see at Vietnam/Thailand, but cleaner? haha
Haha, our random exploration brought us here too! Pretty containers/buildings that are very photo-worthy 😍
With the cutest momsie! We both bought our hats/caps from Daiso 😬 It came in really handy because the sun was really hot ☀️
The bro 😎
Apparently it’s a photo zone, haha
One with Ian 💕 love this container, the colors are totally up my alley 😍
We were feeling a little peckish so lotteria it is! Didn’t get to try it when I was here a few years back, so glad I managed to try it this time 😋
We had the shrimp burger and the wagyu beef burger to share! Added on the mozzarella sticks as well 😋
My fav gotta be the shrimp burger and the cheese sticks (best eaten warm! If it’s cold...it’s no go 😂)
Yay it’s finally time for the rail bike activity!
Redeemed our rail bike tickets for the ticketing office! We pre-booked our tix online, and it’s was about $29 for the 2-seater bike! Opted for two 2-seater bike for the 4 of us 🤗
Onwards to our rail bike adventure!
The total distance for the rail bike activity is 8km! It’s a round trip ride with a pit stop in between for a short break 🤗
A pre 8km photo, all excited for our cycling 😂
The bro & the momsie!
Here we goooooo 🙌🏻
Such a beautiful sight 😍
With my partner-in-crime who did most of the cycling job 😂😂😂
Those fluffy clouds ☁️☁️☁️ the lady in front of us was all on her own! Kudos to her for completing the 8km all by herself. Towards the end, she was really slowly down...and I totally can understand why 😅
Chatted with her a bit when we were taking the shuttle to our next stop, and found out she’s from Malaysia and was on a solo travel in Korea! I can’t wait for my own solo travel next year 😌
Those clouds 😍 the view was simply amazing! Very scenic and we (or mostly me, haha!) were really enjoying the view.
Derpy Ian doing all the hard work...he he he 🤣
Epic ian is epic 🤣 and the laughter from my mom...LOL
After about 45mins....we arrived at the pitstop! Taking a photo to commemorate the two guys hard work 🤣 the mom wasnt contributing much to the cycling too, HAHA.
It was a 15mins break where one can get some refreshments before the next 4km ride back!
Woohoo...we survived the 8km cycle!! Ain’t the easiest, but was still pretty fun for us. There were instances where the bike will be on “auto” mode, where the motor on the tracks will push our bike. So it wasn’t thatttt tough afterall, haha.
Opps, like a bumper car 😂 oh and when our motor was not working, the bike at the back can actually push us forward, so it ain’t that bad, haha
Awaiting for the shuttle to our next activity for the day: Garden of Morning Calm 🌳
Garden of Morning Calm was the last stop for the Gapyeong Tourist Bus route! It’ll take us about an hour bus ride all the way over. So prior to the trip, we decided to skip nami island & petite France (the more popular attractions at Gapyeong!) & head straight to Garden or Morning Calm!
After what felt like forever...we arrived at our stop! But first, we gotta treat ourselves to some snacks 😋
Gotten ourselves a tornado potato which tasted sooooo good after the long bus ride 😂😂😂 check out Ian’s blue sotong face, haha!
Gotten the tix at Garden of Morning Calm itself! But I guess if you pre-booked it online, it might be slightly cheaper? It’s 9,500W each at the booth itself!
Saw how pretty the place is online and had to add it in our itinerary!
Was really hoping for brown leaves to be all around 🍁 But it was still pretty much summer while we were there, boohoo. Haha
The rare few signs of autumn....😢 but it’s still very pretty 😌
Oh hello there! Basically our navigator for the entire trip 😍
Beautiful blooms everywhere!
A photo in between nature...such a pretty sight!
Haha my drama bro is drama...😂
Really a photo galore here!
Thanks for the good & (at times) the not-so-good times ❤️
Our photographer for the day...check out his moves, pretty serious work going on isn’t it 🤔 HAHA
This champ deserves some loveeeee 💋
We gave ourselves only about an hour or so to explore the Garden of Morning Calm so that we can catch the shuttle back in time! The return train tix we bought was at around 6pm?
Just when we thought we had to take a 1.5h bus ride back to the Gapyeong Station, we alighted after a 30mins ride because there was this other station that can bring us back to Seoul as well 😅
But the thing about this station is that the ticketing is different from the ITX tix we bought! Long story short, despite some communication breakdown with the train ahjjussi, we managed to refund our previous tix (which had abt 10% penalty?), and got ourselves new tix to head back! Heh.
Headed back to our hotel to wash up and rest a bit before we went out for dinner! Dinner was at Yoogane Myeongdong 😋 Not a huge fan of this, but it still tasted good after a longggggg day.
Completed our night with Bingsu 😍😋 Tbh, the bingsu we had in Korea ain’t as good as the one we have in SG 😅
We probably didn’t get to try the gooooood ones? And the bingsu we had was pretty expensive, for just a bowl of ice, haha. It’s like 10,000W-15,000W ($12 - $15), it’s no wonder bingsu is so expensive at home too.
Had an early night because day 4 was to Busan 🤗
